Indian cooking at home!
Zey outdid herself. 4 courses out of the Indian cookbooks: Beef Vindaloo, Garbanzo Beans with a Spinach Gravy(Chana Palak), Raita with green Chili paste(Kachumar Raita), and fried bread (Sada Paratha).
Excellent!
Distillery Row!
Meeting up for Michael Linch’s birthday with Stefanie Linch, Will and Rachel, Pat Mack, Rob Andrews; we started out at House Spirits Distillery, progressed to Adeco Distillers, moved on to New Deal, then Beaker and Flask, and then finished up at Produce Row.
All of the distilleries are close together near NE 7th and Stark. B&F is SE7th and Sandy, and Produce Row Cafe is at 2nd and SE Stark.
The Aviation Gin from House was surprisingly good, and we came home with an aged Aqavit from House, Coffee Rum from Adeco, and a bottle of the New Deal vodka.
Chez Jose
Dinner was good, as usual. Fish tacos for me, and the chicken quesadilla for Zey.
Trebol
Sushi Rock
This little place in Hawi, on the north shore of Hawai’i served up some tasty, if not unusual rolls. And, the inferno sauce was too hot to even consider eating!
Daniel Thibeaut’s
Great restaurant in Waimea, HI. We stopped here on the way back from the Mauna Kea Summit, getting there about an hour before they closed. we almost had the whole place to ourselves! The food was delicious!
The setting was an old general store on the main road into town. Parking on the dirt lot, up the stairs to the covered porch, and into the grand old store.
Lava Java
Lots of mixed reviews for this place, and it deserves every one of them.
Located on Ali’i Drive in Kailua-Kona, this place is always packed, there’s always a line, there’s always a wait. The people at the table next to us got cold eggs and waffles, and ended up walking away.
Our food was slow in coming, wasn’t all that hot, and gave us both indigestion. But the location was nice.
Kona Brewing Company
Actually not bad! We finally found this place after ‘following’ the GPS around in circles. And then wandering around the building to find the entrance.
We sat outside, had a nice lunch in Kailua-Kona before heading back to Hapuna Beach. I had the burger and chips, while Zey had the sandwich and slaw.
Zey got me the Castaway IPA T-Shirt and glass, too!
The Schooner, Netarts
The Schooner Restaurant and Lounge
First impressions? Great! Second impressions? Definitely a repeat.
It doesn’t hurt that it’s the nicest place we could find on the coast near Netarts/Oceanside. On our exploratory on the coast on February 28th we had lunch at the best place we could find. The Schooner sits near the boat launch on Netarts Bay: plenty of parking, a nice covered/walled patio with heaters, a GREAT oyster shell covered and wall, nice view.
Lunch consisted of Oyster shooters, Mirror Pond and Red Chair Pale, Crab Melt and Oyster PoBoy. All of it was really tasty. They’ve got a full bar next to the restaurant, which we’ll have to try next time.
If we spend the weekend out there, we’ll have to try out the breakfast, and dinner menus.
I can’t wait to go back when the weather is warm and sit outside!
Muddy Rudder Pub
After having dinner at Caro Amico, Zey, Marcus, and I drove down to Sellwood and checked out the Muddy Rudder. We got there in time to have a drink before the music started at 8:30. The night’s music was a twosome playing old-time bluegrass/dixie/country. The guys were good. I think we’re looking forward to going back and catching some more music and drinks. The pizzas were huge, thin crust, and looked pretty good. The ‘sour’ in the whiskey sour is house made daily, and the drink was very good!
